Another review has come in, this time from the London Jazz News. For First Time Solo I had to do a lot of research into the music of the era. I love jazz, but before FTS I tended to listen to artists from the 1950s and 60s so I took a crash course in all things Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong. I also had to learn about being a jazz trumpeter. I play the guitar so I understand basic musical theory but to be able to explain exactly why Dizzy Gillespie was revolutionary or Louis Armstrong so inspiring I had to get into some deep technical areas. When I do that, I always worry that I’ve missed something or misunderstood something. So a review by jazz experts was, for me, a test of my research. Read the review here.
